What is MDD YRUU??
The Mountain Desert District YRUU (Young Religious Unitarian Universalists) is a district wide community of high school youth and adult allies. YRUU exists all across the nation as part of the Unitarian Universalist Association. Through district cons (conferences), cluster retreats, leadership trainings, local gatherings and immersion programs we increase a sense of belonging in the UU community and encourage spiritual growth and leadership.
Mission Statement:
The Young Religious Unitarian Universalist community in the Mountain Desert District connects high school age youth and their adult allies to the spirit of Unitarian Universalism through radical hospitality, youth empowerment, consciousness raising, and social change.
Three Goals for 2011-2012
- Build mutually respectful multignerational relationships
- Set clear expectations for adults interested in participating in YRUU through cons, trainings, advisor roles, and immersion programs
- Create a feedback form for adults to get input on a more comfortable, fulfilling environment in our partnership
- Use the voice of veteran YRUU adult allies to spread the good word
- Build trusting relationships with open, consistent communication with adults in our home congregations including religious educators and ministers
- Increase attendance in local youth groups and at retreats and cons
- Maintain a radically inclusive community
- Connect middle school youth and 9th grade trippers to con culture
- Host cluster overnighters at the beginning of the year where HS are in a counselor role
- Prioritize youth programing at Annual Meeting/Youth Assembly
- Foster a strong YAC core that can support local groups and the district
- Plan Two Intergenerational Immersion Trips for middle schoolers, high schoolers and adults
- Boston in Spring 2012
- Immigration program, perhaps partnering with Borderlinks Summer/Fall 2012
